Watch Me Turn 30, by Ashley N.
Question of the year: Is spending your late 20s living on South Beach and island-hopping the Caribbean as a career a) every responsible adult's fantasy or b) totally outlandish and ultimately unfulfilling for a semi-responsible adult who still places an abnormally high priority on fun? Perhaps the mere concept of what constitutes adulthood has been distorted due to my surroundings.

Through this blog, I hope to figure out what being "almost 30" really means to me...hopefully, before the big b-day next January.

Thanks goes to Holly C. for, first and foremost, agreeing to go on one of my press trips to the 'burbs of Fort Lauderdale and ultimately passing this site along to me.

DAY 68  |  March 19, 2008

I finally got a new license today with my actual current address after being warned twice by the cops. For some reason, I couldn't renew online, so "new license" has remained on my to-do list since roughly 2004.

Although my license has my actual real name as well, I get told at least 2-3 times a day that I'm a dead ringer for Cameron Diaz. I used to love that compliment until I read this story in Star magazine. Uh-oh...seems as if she and I may have a bit more in common than just looks. I'm so screwed.

What’s the deal with Cameron, 35? “She falls into the same trap, over and over, but fails to recognize what her dating missteps actually are,” Doree says. “She continues to date these seemingly non-committal, younger men who are simply not interested in settling down. It’s hard for a guy to take you seriously if you don’t even take yourself seriously, and in her case, I don’t think she acquits herself as she should – as a secure, confident, successful woman. Her self-deprecation and self-professed ‘fun-lovingness’ certainly diminish any chances of a man taking her seriously for marriage.”
