Watch Me Turn 30, by Ashley N.
Question of the year: Is spending your late 20s living on South Beach and island-hopping the Caribbean as a career a) every responsible adult's fantasy or b) totally outlandish and ultimately unfulfilling for a semi-responsible adult who still places an abnormally high priority on fun? Perhaps the mere concept of what constitutes adulthood has been distorted due to my surroundings.

Through this blog, I hope to figure out what being "almost 30" really means to me...hopefully, before the big b-day next January.

Thanks goes to Holly C. for, first and foremost, agreeing to go on one of my press trips to the 'burbs of Fort Lauderdale and ultimately passing this site along to me.

DAY 56  |  March 7, 2008

I realized I was getting older today when my friends Kurry and Aimee had to get a sitter so we could go to the Langerado Festival, South Florida’s best hippie jamfest. This is the third year I’ve gone, but a lot was different this time around. Sure the festival was bigger, longer and now on an Indian reservation in the middle of the Everglades, but the best part was that, this year, there were a few bands on the schedule that I have been rocking out to since I was in braces.

I must admit, it was kind of weird to see MCA of the Beastie Boys jump around the stage as a graying 40-something. I also realized that, until 311 came onstage, I hadn’t heard “Down” performed live since the Wounded Hunters covered it at my high school graduation party in my parents’ backyard.

For the record, that is my friend Alana is the picture with me and she did not have to get a sitter. She and her husband are camping out through Sunday. Hardcore!
