Watch Me Turn 30, by Ashley N.
Question of the year: Is spending your late 20s living on South Beach and island-hopping the Caribbean as a career a) every responsible adult's fantasy or b) totally outlandish and ultimately unfulfilling for a semi-responsible adult who still places an abnormally high priority on fun? Perhaps the mere concept of what constitutes adulthood has been distorted due to my surroundings.

Through this blog, I hope to figure out what being "almost 30" really means to me...hopefully, before the big b-day next January.

Thanks goes to Holly C. for, first and foremost, agreeing to go on one of my press trips to the 'burbs of Fort Lauderdale and ultimately passing this site along to me.

DAY 53  |  March 4, 2008

Starbucks has a new lifetime customer.

Last week, the account assistant I work closely with referred to my friend MH as ‘that lady at the Sun-Sentinel.’ Whaaaaat? Now, granted they have never met, so she has no idea if MH is 21 or 55. But it got me thinking as to whether people refer to us as ‘ladies’ all the time behind our backs. We did have this male intern awhile back who ‘ma’am’-ed us a lot but that was an entirely different situation. I was totally freaking out because, even if I end up a soccer mom, I still want the neighbors to think of my friends and me as ‘those cool chicks who are fun and have great clothes’ - not ‘those ladies!’

All confusion was cleared up this morning when I went for coffee. “Have a good day, young lady,” said the cute guy barista as he handed me my latte. Thank goodness!
