Watch Me Turn 30, by Ashley N.
Question of the year: Is spending your late 20s living on South Beach and island-hopping the Caribbean as a career a) every responsible adult's fantasy or b) totally outlandish and ultimately unfulfilling for a semi-responsible adult who still places an abnormally high priority on fun? Perhaps the mere concept of what constitutes adulthood has been distorted due to my surroundings.

Through this blog, I hope to figure out what being "almost 30" really means to me...hopefully, before the big b-day next January.

Thanks goes to Holly C. for, first and foremost, agreeing to go on one of my press trips to the 'burbs of Fort Lauderdale and ultimately passing this site along to me.

DAY 46  |  February 26, 2008
Today was the big Florida blackout. I was browsing American Apparel when all of a sudden, all of the lights on the entire street shut down. Now, I would never really loot, but that Sublime song “Wanna let it burn, wanna wanna let it burn…riots on the streets of Miami” kept running through my head and for a split second I wondered if it would really be possible to walk off with a new dress under the cover of darkness. I immediately decided it wasn’t and headed back to the office where I learned that the outage wasn’t just affecting our neighborhood but parts of the entire state. I actually felt pretty vulnerable at first not knowing what was going on, but as news trickled in that it was just a power company glitch, the mood lightened. And we got a much needed 30 minute technology break at work. Bonus! Side note: It was 87 degrees today. There is no arguing the theory of global warming.
